Stick with It

Stick With It is a mid-tempo “novelty” that utilizes an unusual assortment of instruments: the triangle, rhythmic sticks, tambourine, the un-traditional cardboard box and even a few foot stomps. Rhythms are limited to quarter notes and rests, whole rests and paired eighth notes. Half rests are purposely replaced with quarter rests for ease of reading. There are accents, but they will occur when two or more instruments are playing in rhythmic unison. Dynamics are limited to mp and mf. The piece quiets down to mp at measure 33, where the triangles are featured for the next 8 measures. The triangles also close out the piece. There is much interaction amongst instruments throughout this piece and rhythmic interdependence will reach its climax, starting at measure 41 and continue for the next 11 measures. For visual effect, try using different colored rhythmic sticks for each player and/or boxes of various sizes.
